Ok, these tips might seem super basic, but I wanted to tell you about my experience following them for the past few years and what I am doing at the moment. Remember, these rules only work if you are consistent 🙂
I currently do strength training or HIIT (30-50 min a day) + Yoga (40-60 min a day) 6 times a week. I also try to include some light activities during the week – such as walking / swimming. If it’s less than 40C degrees outside, I’m not wearing heels and it’s less than 4km, I’ll most likely opt to walk home.
2. Eat Well
95% of the time my diet is comprised of foods that are dairy, refined-sugar and gluten-free. I always read the labels and try to avoid all sorts of chemicals. My daily diet is very balanced in protein, carbs and fat. It includes lots of fiber, Omega-3 and antioxidants. No matter my current goals, I would eat dark chocolate, avocados, berries, nuts and coconut oil pretty much every day. If I need to shed a bit of fat I just count my macros.
3. Sleep Well
I honestly feel like crap if I don’t comply with my 8-hour rule, so sleep is definitely a priority. It’s also very important not to go to bed after 12 am.
4. Drink Water
I’ve been drinking 3+ litres of water per day since I was 13. I read about the importance of water in some magazine and just started doing it. I think, maybe the first month it was somewhat difficult, but after that it just became a habit. To be honest, I can’t imagine NOT drinking huge amounts of water.
5. Reduce Caffeine and Alcohol
As much as I love coffee, I generally don’t drink more than 2 cups per day. If I do, my cortisol (stress hormone) levels go crazy, so it’s totally not worth it. As for alcohol, for many years I’ve only been drinking red wine and trying to have less than 2 glasses a week. Maybe one day I’ll cut wine out completely… Maybe I won’t 🙂
6. Take Contrast Showers
I take 2 contrast showers a day, starting and finishing with freezing water and switching between hot and cold about 5 times.
7. Exfoliate & Moisturize
I try to put the least amount of chemicals possible on my skin. So instead of body scrub I use ground coffee (2 times a week) and instead of body lotion – coconut or olive oil (2 times a day after shower applying on wet skin).
8. Minimize Stress
If you’re always stressed your diet, your sleep, your gym performance – pretty much everything – goes to hell. 6 years ago, when I worked in Finance, I would wake up and go to bed totally stressed out and wouldn’t even realize how badly it affected my health and the way I looked.
I am not suggesting that you spend your whole life in the Namaste way (you should if you want to), but controlling your stress levels, remembering to relax and trying to be mindful throughout the day will seriously do wonders.
I meditate at least 15 minutes a day, every single day.
10. Do Something that Makes You Happy on a Daily Basis
I am a huge believer in daily rituals – they improve our mood, help relax and bring a sense of stability if we’re going through difficult times. My 2 cups of coffee a day (one as soon as I wake up and one around 3:30 pm) is my #Inspo time. For at least 15 minute I make sure I won’t do any work / talk to anyone. I would drink my coffee, snack on something healthy and read something inspirational (or just watch the scenery if I’m travelling).
Let me know if you have your own rules that really helped you improve your life 🙂 xxx
